HOW
MANAGEMENT GOES TO THE MOVIES WORKS
A VCR, a rented video, a tub of popcorn and a copy
of Movies for Leaders: Management Lessons from Four All-Time Great Films. . . management training doesn't get any better than this!
Management Goes to the Movies uses popular films to teach Management 101. The MGTTM program provides managers with a low-cost, effective and entertaining management-training method. It can be used for self-study or as part of a corporate training program.
For years, the authors - Shaun O'L. Higgins and Colleen Striegel - have used movies to illustrate key management
principles and practices for new managers. They have learned that time-starved managers
find movies a convenient and interesting way to hone their business skills. They have
found that managers who lack B-school training -- particularly those with liberal arts
backgrounds - find movies more engaging than traditional training films. As a result, they
are more responsive to the training.

Here are other key points about the MGTTM program:

ALL MOVIES IN THE PROGRAM ARE MAJOR-RELEASE FILMS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON VIDEOTAPE, DVD OR LASERDISC
The movies include Academy Award-winners like Citizen Kane and The Bridge on the
River Kwai (the No. 1 and No. 6 top movies of all time, according to the American Film
Institute). There are also oldies such as The Story of Alexander Graham Bell; a
sports movie, Hoosiers (selected by USA Today readers as their favorite
all-time sports film; gangster movies (Bugsy and The Godfather Series); and,
of course, movies about business: Glengarry Glen Ross, Tin Men, Wall
Street, Other People's Money, Gung Ho and Working Girl. New films
are added regularly - so come back and visit our site often!

THE PROGRAM'S COMMENTARY IS AS INFORMATIVE AS ITS MOVIES ARE ENTERTAINING
Each Study Guide bristles with lessons dealing with entrepreneurship, leadership, team
building, crisis management, vision, succession, cost control, creative thinking and
sales. The authors' comments are enhanced by their use of examples from real businesses
that benefited from lessons found in the movies.
